SWG-3010 Water Head Meter – Precise Water Level Head Difference Meter and Controller for Industrial Use

Description of Water Level Difference Meter and Controller

The SWG-3010 is an Industrial Water Head Meter / Water Level Difference Meter designed for monitoring and controlling absolute and differential water levels in circulating water pump houses, sewage treatment systems, and other industrial facilities. In a typical application, it can measure water levels at inlets and outlets of trash racks and rotating filter screens, triggering automated control signals or alarms based on absolute levels or inlet-outlet differences. This enables a fully automated operation of rotating filter screens, trash rack grid cleaning systems, and associated external equipment, making the SWG-3010 a highly capable Industrial Water Level Controller. With appropriate level transmitters, device configuration, and external connections, the SWG-3010 can be applied to a wide range of industrial fluid level metering and control applications.

The SWG-3010 is designed by Unicorn Energy Systems as a modern replacement for SWG-2000 / SWG-2010 / SWG20=3000 Water Level Meters from China’s Nanjing Electric Power Automation Equipment General Factory (also known as Nanjing Genesis Electric Automation Company Limited). While maintaining compatibility with the panel mounting form factor and signal, power, and operator interfaces of these legacy devices, the SWG-3010 introduces significant enhancements. These include three fully isolated analog inputs, three analog outputs, and six 5A-rated relay outputs as standard, along with Modbus TCP over Ethernet for seamless integration with modern industrial automation networks. Additionally, the device features an advanced HMI (Human-Machine Interface) that provides clear and efficient information display.

The SWG-3010 features a substantially improved HMI compared to the SWG-2010, incorporating a larger graphical color LCD based on ISA-101 High-Performance HMI Guidelines. Water levels are displayed both numerically and with bar graphs, where moving pointers indicate current values against normal operating (blue) and alarm (yellow/red) ranges. This intuitive display greatly enhances situational awareness, allowing operators to quickly assess process conditions at a glance. Trend graphs with configurable duration further support real-time monitoring and analysis, aiding in effective decision-making for a reliable operation.

With its comprehensive automation features, seamless integration capabilities, and user-friendly design, the SWG-3010 is a highly effective solution for industrial water level monitoring and automated control, ensuring reliable and efficient operation in demanding environments.

Salient Features

Sealed IP65 waterproof and dustproof enclosure with an aluminum front door for efficient heat dissipation, making the device suitable for outdoor and control cabinet installations.

Three installation methods: panel mount, wall mount, and pipe mount. Wall mount and pipe mount options require brackets that are ordered separately.

Large high-resolution TFT LCD screen with backlight, displaying multiple parameters simultaneously, featuring an ISA-101 inspired HMI with bar graphs, moving indicators, and real-time trend graphs.

Operates within 100–240VAC universal power supply range.

Three 4–20mA analog inputs for measuring absolute and differential water levels, displayed on the HMI as L1, L2, and L3, along with L1-L2 and L2-L3 differences. Real-time trends of these parameters are available with a configurable duration.

Independent isolated 24V power supply for each analog input channel, supporting seamless integration with loop-powered transmitters. Each channel features channel-to-channel and channel-to-ground isolation.

Three 4–20mA analog outputs, programmable to correspond with L1, L2, L3, L1-L2, or L2-L3, with configurable lower and upper limits. All outputs share a common isolated 24V power supply with galvanic isolation from system ground.

Six 5A-rated relay outputs, programmable for alarm and control functions.

Optional Modbus RTU over RS-485 and Modbus TCP over Ethernet, ensuring seamless integration with modern industrial automation systems.

RS-485 bus interface featuring optional termination resistor and isolation from system ground, both configurable via jumper settings.

Pluggable connectors for mains power supply, analog inputs, analog outputs, relay outputs, RS-485 and Ethernet for easy and secure connections.

Diagnostic LEDs indicating the healthiness of various parts / functions of the device.

Software-based parameter settings—eliminating the need for physical function switches or adjustment knobs.

Critical components sourced from world-renowned manufacturers, ensuring long-term durability and operational stability.

Working Principle

The SWG-3010 determines water levels using 4-20mA output level transmitters connected to its inputs. It supports both loop-powered (two-wire, powered by the SWG-3010) and externally powered transmitters. Typically, either a silicon hydrostatic pressure transmitter or an ultrasonic/radar level transmitter is used. When pressure transmitter is used, its sensor is immersed in water and converts hydrostatic pressure into a 4-20mA current signal, which the device processes to determine the water level and level differences. The ultrasonic/radar transmitters provide non-contact continuous measurement, transmitting 4-20mA signals for further processing.

Based on predefined configurations and setpoints, the device outputs absolute and differential water level measurements via analog signals and actuates relays as needed. These outputs enable automated control of pumps, gates, and rotating filters, facilitating fully automated water level management and filter cleaning operations.

In addition to automatic control, all the information is efficiently displayed to operators for situational awareness and operational decision-making.
